Es trobava entre la plana d'Antioquia de l'Orontes i l'Eufrates, i tenia a l'oest les muntanyes Amanos i Commagena; cap al sud arribava fins al desert. Era un districte fèrtil i ben regat i densament poblat, especialment a la vora de l'Eufrates, segons diu Estrabó. - Η Κυρρηστική ήταν αρχαία χώρα στη περιοχή της Συρίας που εκτεινόταν μεταξύ του όρους Αμανού, δυτικά, της Κομμαγηνής, βόρεια, του Ευφράτη (ανατολικά) και της Χαλκιδικής της Συρίας και του ποταμού Ορόντη, (νότια). Κατά τους χρόνους του Μ. Αλεξάνδρου της χώρας αυτής και ιδιαίτερα της πόλης Βαμβύκης δυνάστευε ο Αρχιερέας Αβδ Χαδάδ (ή Αμπντ. Χαντάντ) στο όνομα του οποίου είχαν κοπεί νομίσματα. Στην εποχή των Επιγόνων Βασιλείς της περιοχής ήταν οι Σελευκίδες. Στη χώρα αυτή συνελήφθη το 286 π.Χ. ο Δημήτριος ο Πολιορκητής από τον Σέλευκο. (el)
- Cyrrhestica (Greek: Κυρρηστική) is a district of Greater Syria which appears to have owed its name to the Macedonian occupation of the country. It lies to the east of the plain of Antioch and Amanus, and was bounded on the east by the Euphrates and Commagene to the north, it extended as far as the desert. This fertile, well-watered, and thickly peopled district occupied the right bank of the Euphrates, where the river inclines rather eastward of south. It was the scene of the campaign in which Ventidius defeated the Parthian Pacorus and avenged Crassus and the Roman army which had fallen at Carrhae. Constantine I united it with Commagene under the name of Provincia Euphratensis. The chief towns of Cyrrhestica were Hierapolis Bambyce, Zeugma, Europus, Birtha?, Beroea (modern Aleppo), Batnae (en)

Es trobava entre la plana d'Antioquia de l'Orontes i l'Eufrates, i tenia a l'oest les muntanyes Amanos i Commagena; cap al sud arribava fins al desert. En aquest districte, el general romà Publi Ventidi Bas va derrotar el rei part Pacoros a la Batalla del Mont Gindarus, i va venjar així Crassus i l'exèrcit romà derrotat a Carres. Sota Constantí el Gran, el districte va quedar unit amb Commagena per formar la província Eufratense (Euphratensis). - Η Κυρρηστική ήταν αρχαία χώρα στη περιοχή της Συρίας που εκτεινόταν μεταξύ του όρους Αμανού, δυτικά, της Κομμαγηνής, βόρεια, του Ευφράτη (ανατολικά) και της Χαλκιδικής της Συρίας και του ποταμού Ορόντη, (νότια). Κυριότερες πόλεις της Κυρρηστικής πολλών από τις οποίες έχουν διασωθεί και νομίσματα, ήταν η Κύρρος, πρωτεύουσα αυτής, από την οποία και ονομάσθηκε η χώρα, η Βέροια Συρίας, (το σημερινό Χαλέπι), η Ιερόπολις ή Ιεράπολη Συρίας, (η παλαιά Βαμβύκη), η Ηράκλεια που απείχε περί τα 4 χλμ. από το αρχαίο ιερό της Κυρρηστίδος Αθηνάς που λατρεύονταν ιδιαίτερα στη περιοχή, καθώς και άλλες μικρότερες πόλεις όπως ο Εύρωπος, η Νικατορίς, το Ζεύγμα (παρά τον Ευφράτη) και ο Μελεάγρου Χάραξ. Κατά τους χρόνους του Μ. Αλεξάνδρου της χώρας αυτής και ιδιαίτερα της πόλης Βαμβύκης δυνάστευε ο Αρχιερέας Αβδ Χαδάδ (ή Αμπντ. Χαντάντ) στο όνομα του οποίου είχαν κοπεί νομίσματα. Στην εποχή των Επιγόνων Βασιλείς της περιοχής ήταν οι Σελευκίδες. Στη χώρα αυτή συνελήφθη το 286 π.Χ. ο Δημήτριος ο Πολιορκητής από τον Σέλευκο. Οι Κυρρηστές, όπως αναφέρονταν οι κάτοικοι της χώρας θεωρούνταν από τους πλέον απείθαρχους υπηκόους των Σελευκιδών. Αυτό αποκαλύπτεται από την μεγάλη στάση τους, επί Αντιόχου Γ΄ του Μεγάλου, που τελικά καταβλήθηκε με τακτική μάχη, όταν υποκινούμενοι από τον Αχαιό, αρνήθηκαν να ακολουθήσουν τον Ηγεμόνα τους στην κατά Βαβυλώνα εκστρατεία του. Επί Αντιόχου του Γρυπού τύραννος της Κυρρηστικής ήταν ο και μετά τον θάνατο αυτού η σύζυγός του Λαοδίκη Δ' της Συρίας και στη συνέχεια ο γιος του Διονύσιος. Κατά τους ρωμαϊκούς χρόνους η Κυρρηστική καταλήφθηκε και κατέστη επαρχία της Ασίας. Αργότερα η χώρα αυτή περιήλθε στη Βυζαντινή Αυτοκρατορία από την οποία και την κατέλαβαν οι Άραβες περί τον 7ο αιώνα (μ.Χ.). (el)
