The Choral Journal has called DeVenney "one of the most industrious scholars on the current scene," while MLA Notes has labeled his contributions to the study of American choral music "a significant achievement." He was given the Dean's award for artistic excellence in 2003 and in 2006 was named Distinguished Music Alumnus at Iowa State University; he has several times been named Outstanding Teacher by the WCU Honors College.[1] (en)
