The eastern Canary Islands chiffchaff or Lanzarote Island chiffchaff (Phylloscopus canariensis exsul) is an extinct subspecies of the Canary Islands chiffchaff endemic to the island of Lanzarote – and possibly also Fuerteventura – in the Canary Islands, Spain. The eastern Canary Islands chiffchaff was more chestnut-backed and shorter-winged than the western Canary Islands chiffchaff, Phylloscopus canariensis canariensis. These birds were formerly considered subspecies of the common chiffchaff but separated due to their morphological, bioacoustical, and mtDNA sequence differences.

- El mosquitero canario oriental (Phylloscopus canariensis exsul) es una subespecie extinta del mosquitero de Canarias que era endémica de la isla de Lanzarote - y posiblemente también de Fuerteventura - pertenecientes a las islas Canarias, España. El mosquitero de canario oriental tenían la espalda de color más castaño y las alas más cortas que el mosquitero canario occidental (Phylloscopus canariensis canariensis). En el pasado se consideraba a ambos subespecies del mosquitero común pero fueron separados debido a sus diferencias morfológicas, cantos diferenciados y tener secuencias de ADN mitocondrial diferentes. Al parecer esta subespecie ya era muy rara en el momento en el que fue descrita. Se recolectaron varios ejemplares a principios del siglo XX en los valles de Haría (Lanzarote). Podía avistarse entre las retamas de zonas altas y frescas. La presencia de la subespecie en Fuerteventura es solo hipotética, no se recolectó ningún espécimen allí ni existe ningún registro fiable. La causa de sus extinción es desconocida. Quizás la desaparación final fue debida a la destrucción de su hábitat o la transformación de la vegetación del macizo Famara. (es)

Apparently this subspecies was already very rare at the moment of its description. A number of specimens were collected at the beginning of the 20th century in the valleys of Haría (Lanzarote). There it could be observed in broom thickets in the high and fresh zones. Since then there are only some doubtful records. The presence of this subspecies in Fuerteventura is merely hypothetical, as no specimen was ever collected there, nor are there reliable records from that island. The cause of extinction is unknown.
