El puente del Papa (The Pope's Bridge) is a bridge located in Monterrey, Nuevo León, Mexico, across the usually dry . It took its name when Pope John Paul II offered a Catholic mass over the bridge. A flea market by the same name used to install itself under the bridge during weekends, but after hurricane "Alex" struck the city, among many things, there was a shift in the way traffic was directed and the flea market ceased to exist.

Su nombre se debe a la visita del Papa Juan Pablo II a la ciudad el 31 de enero de 1979 en su primer viaje internacional. La gente lo recibió en el lecho del río y el papa estaba sobre el puente. Debajo del puente se encontraba un mercado que llevaba el mismo nombre. El puente se llamaba "Puente San Luisito", pues conectaba el centro de Monterrey con el Barrio San Luisito (ahora colonia Independencia).

Su nombre se debe a la visita del Papa Juan Pablo II a la ciudad el 31 de enero de 1979 en su primer viaje internacional. La gente lo recibió en el lecho del río y el papa estaba sobre el puente. Debajo del puente se encontraba un mercado que llevaba el mismo nombre. El puente se llamaba "Puente San Luisito", pues conectaba el centro de Monterrey con el Barrio San Luisito (ahora colonia Independencia). Antes hubo otros puentes que conectaban al centro de Monterrey con la colonia San Luisito o Independencia, uno de ellos diseñado por el arquitecto inglés radicado en San Antonio, Texas, . Este puente, como los demás, fue destruido por la corriente del Río Santa Catarina durante una de las inundaciones que afectaron a la ciudad antes de que se canalizara el río.

Before the Pope John Paul II visited Monterrey, the bridge was called "Puente San Luisito" (St. Little Louis' Bridge), as it connected the "San Luisito" neighborhood, (today, Independencia neighborhood) with Monterrey Downtown, across the Santa Catarina River. The name of "Puente San Luisito" was the name of the bridge for over a century, and in just 20 years, it has been completely forgotten. (en)
