Frøya is an island in Frøya municipality in Trøndelag county, Norway. The 152-square-kilometre (59 sq mi) island makes up about 63% of the land area of Frøya municipality. The island lies in a large archipelago of islands in the Frøyhavet sea, just northwest of the entrance to the Trondheimsfjorden. The Frøyfjorden lies to the south of the island and that separates it from the large island of Hitra. The island is connected to the mainland via the Frøya Tunnel which connects it to the neighboring island of Hitra. The island of Hitra is then connected to the mainland by the Hitra Tunnel.

The island lies in a large archipelago of islands in the Frøyhavet sea, just northwest of the entrance to the Trondheimsfjorden. The Frøyfjorden lies to the south of the island and that separates it from the large island of Hitra. The island is rocky with heather-covered moorland as well as marshes and lakes. There are no naturally forested areas on the island. The highest point on the island is Besselvassheia, at 76 metres (249 ft) above sea level. The southern and eastern coasts are relatively smooth, but the northern coast is very jagged with many fjords and coves. Sletringen Lighthouse lies at the southwestern tip of the island. The island is connected to the mainland via the Frøya Tunnel which connects it to the neighboring island of Hitra. The island of Hitra is then connected to the mainland by the Hitra Tunnel. (en)

På ön finns hjortar och de delvis vattenlevande djuren utter och mink är vanliga. 20 % av Norges population av storskarv häckar på ön. Man planterar många träd på ön för att få tillbaka den skog som en gång sågades ned för att ge virke till fiskeflottan och till bostäder. Befolkningen har successivt minskat sedan andra världskriget och har följt restriktionerna på havsfisket. 2005 levde ca 4 000 människor på öarna. Fiskerinäringen dominerar med ett ökande inslag av turism. Ekologiskt jordbruk ökar på ön och eftersom det inte finns rovdjur så har man ca 2 000 frigående får och getter.Sedan 2006 har befolkningen ökat med ca 2-3 % årligen, då många väljer att arbeta där på grund av den stora laxexporten.Idag[när?] har ön drygt 4 000 invånare.
