November 1937) war ein US-amerikanischer Jurist und langjähriger Präsident der Chemical Foundation. 1929 erhielt er die höchste Auszeichnung der American Chemical Society (ACS), die Priestley-Medaille, die sonst nur an Chemiker verliehen wurde. 1935 stiftete er mit seiner Frau die Garvan-Olin-Medaille für Chemikerinnen, die seit 1937 von der ACS verliehen wird. Studiował też na innych uczelniach W 1919 prezydent Woodrow Wilson mianował go przewodniczącym Chemical Foundation of America, którą to funkcję pełnił do swej śmierci w 1937, nie pobierając (jak i reszta zarządu) pensji. W 1936 ufundował Medal Garvana dla kobiet, które wniosły wybitny wkład w rozwój chemii. (pl)
