The tiny uninhabited German island of Gänsewerder lies in the Schaproder Bodden, a lagoon on the Baltic Sea coast, 400 metres east of the Gellen Peninsula on Hiddensee. It is part of the Western Pomerania Lagoon Area National Park and is out of bounds to the public. The surface of Gänsewerder is flat, sandy and damp, and only reeds and small plants grow there. There is a small pond in the northeast of the island. The island has an oval shape and slopes along its longer axis from southwest to northeast. It measures about 328 by 155 metres and has an area of some 4 hectares. When the national park was established, Gänsewerder (like the Gellen) was a coastal nesting area for birds, but is no longer. | - Die unbewohnte deutsche Insel Gänsewerder liegt im Schaproder Bodden in der Ostsee, 400 Meter östlich der Halbinsel Gellen auf Hiddensee. Sie gehört zur Gemeinde Insel Hiddensee und ist Teil des Nationalparks Vorpommersche Boddenlandschaft. Gemeinsam mit dem Gellen war sie schon zu DDR-Zeiten ein Naturschutzgebiet. Die Insel darf nicht betreten werden. Die Oberfläche des Gänsewerders ist flach, sandig, feucht und nur von Schilf und Kleinpflanzen bewachsen. Ein kleiner Teich befindet sich im Nordosten. Die Insel hat eine von Südwest nach Nordost geneigte, ovale Form, misst etwa 328 mal 155 Meter, bei einer Fläche von vier Hektar. Zum Zeitpunkt der Einrichtung des Nationalparks war der Gänsewerder (wie der Gellen) ein Küstenvogelbrutgebiet, das jedoch erloschen ist. Die von einigen Vogelarten bewohnte Hiddenseer Fährinsel wird vom Nationalpark verwaltungstechnisch mit dem Gellen und dem Gänsewerder zusammengefasst. (de)
