GSAT-5P, or GSAT-5 Prime, was an Indian communications satellite which was lost in a launch failure in December 2010. Part of the Indian National Satellite System, it was intended to operate in geosynchronous orbit as a replacement for INSAT-3E.

Dezember 2010 mit einer GSLV-Trägerrakete vom Satish Dhawan Space Centre aus in eine geostationäre Umlaufbahn gebracht werden und den bisherigen Satelliten Insat-3E ersetzen. Auf Grund eines undichten Ventils verzögerte sich der Start bis zum 25. Dezember 2010. Beim Start der Trägerrakete kam es zu einer Bahnabweichung, woraufhin die Rakete 63 Sekunden nach dem Start durch Selbstzerstörung explodierte und der Satellit verloren ging. (de)
