- Gottfried Freiherr von Banfield (6 February 1890 – 23 September 1986) was the most successful Austro-Hungarian naval aeroplane pilot in the First World War. He was known as the 'Eagle of Trieste' and was the last person in history to wear the Military Order of Maria Theresa. He scored 9 aerial victories during the war, making him one of the only Flying aces who flew a flying boat to five or more victories. (en)

- Goffredo de Banfield, noto anche come Gottfried von Banfield (Castelnuovo di Cattaro, 6 febbraio 1890 – Trieste, 23 settembre 1986), è stato un aviatore austro-ungarico naturalizzato italiano.Fu il più vittorioso pilota della k.u.k. Kriegsmarine nel corso della prima guerra mondiale, conosciuto con il soprannome di "Aquila di Trieste" ed ultima persona ad essere decorata con l'Ordine militare di Maria Teresa. Dopo la guerra, nel 1926 divenne cittadino italiano diventando direttore di un'impresa di trasporti e recuperi marittimi. (it)

Herceg Novi, 6-2-1890; † Trieste, 23-9-1986), montenegrino de antepasados irlandeses, fue el principal as de la aviación naval del Imperio austrohúngaro durante la Primera Guerra Mundial. Conocido como "el Águila de Trieste", fue el único aviador del imperio en recibir la Orden Militar de María Teresa y la última persona viva en ostentar tan alta condecoración, cuya concesión le supuso su ennoblecimiento con el título de barón (Freiherr). Fue también, hasta donde se sabe, el único as de la aviación en conseguir cinco o más victorias pilotando una hidrocanoa. (es)
