Gregor Schoeler, born in Germany in 1944, is a contemporary non-Muslim Islamic scholar He has served the chair of Islamic studies at the University of Basel since 2009. Prior to that, he served in a professorship role in the same field at Paris-Sorbonne University starting from 1982 and has lectured at the School for Advanced Studies in the Social Sciences since 2000. He majored in Islamic studies and Semitic languages at the University of Marburg, Goethe University Frankfurt and University of Giessen.

- Gregor Schoeler (* 1944) ist ein deutscher Arabist und Islamwissenschaftler. Er hat sich insbesondere um die Erforschung der Prophetenbiographie verdient gemacht. Gregor Schoeler war von 1982 bis zu seiner Emeritierung im September 2009 Inhaber des Lehrstuhls für Islamwissenschaft der Universität Basel. Er war Gastprofessor an der École Pratique des Hautes Études à la Sorbonne in Paris. In seinen Forschungen zur Prophetenbiographie hat er anhand von einzelnen Beispielen die Überlieferungswege der Berichte über das Leben Mohammeds rekonstruiert und aufgezeigt, dass sich viele dieser Berichte bis auf ʿUrwa ibn az-Zubair (gest. 712/13) zurückführen lassen.
