| - In Palo Alto, an der Stanford University, gibt es seit dem 3. Oktober 2005 das Hasso Plattner Institute of Design. An der bislang „d.school“ genannten Einrichtung entwickeln Wissenschaftler verschiedener Fachrichtungen gemeinsam nutzerfreundliche Innovationen. Geleitet wird das Institut von David Kelley, dem Gründer von IDEO. Stifter Hasso Plattner stattete das Institut mit 35 Millionen US-Dollar aus. Es gehört zur School of Engineering der Stanford University im Silicon Valley. Das Potsdamer Hasso-Plattner-Institut für Softwaresystemtechnik mit seiner HPI School of Design Thinking (tätig seit dem Wintersemester 2007/2008) pflegt mit seinem Schwesterinstitut in Stanford eine besonders enge Zusammenarbeit. Neben dem Austausch von Studenten und Wissenschaftlern gibt es einen jährlich stattfindenden Workshop zum Thema Design Thinking in Deutschland. Ebenso werden über die Achse zwischen Potsdam und Palo Alto deutsche Unternehmen in gemeinsame internationale Entwicklungsprojekte eingebunden. Mit Hilfe moderner Tele-Teaching-Technik wird die Durchführung solcher Projekte auf beiden Seiten des Atlantiks erleichtert. Außerdem gibt es einen Austausch von Lehrinhalten und anderen Materialien.
