The Heers Formation (Dutch: Formatie van Heers; French: Formation de Heers; abbreviation: Hs) is a geologic formation in the subsurface of Belgium. The formation consists of sand and marl and was deposited in the shallow sea that covered Belgium during the middle to late Selandian age of the Paleocene epoch. The Orp and Gelinden members are also recognized in the Netherlands (north of Belgium). Dutch stratigraphers see them as part of the Landen Formation.

| - The Heers Formation (Dutch: Formatie van Heers; French: Formation de Heers; abbreviation: Hs) is a geologic formation in the subsurface of Belgium. The formation consists of sand and marl and was deposited in the shallow sea that covered Belgium during the middle to late Selandian age of the Paleocene epoch. The formation is subdivided into two members: at the base green, glauconiferous sand (Orp Member), on top calcareous clay and marl in which plant fossils have been found (Gelinden Member). This sequence formed during a marine transgression. The Orp Member represents a near coastal marine environment, the Gelinden Member formed in shallow marine circumstances but further from the land. The Heers Formation occurs in the subsurface of the northern and eastern parts of Flanders. In Limburg it reaches its maximal thickness at about 60 meters. The Heers Formation is stratigraphically on top of Cretaceous and early Paleocene deposits, such as the Opglabbeek Formation or the Houthem Formation. The Heers Formation is almost everywhere overlain by the Hannut Formation (clay, sand and limestone from the late Paleocene). The Orp and Gelinden members are also recognized in the Netherlands (north of Belgium). Dutch stratigraphers see them as part of the Landen Formation. (en)
- De Formatie van Heers of Heers Formatie (sic, afkorting: Hs) is een geologische formatie in de ondergrond van België. De formatie bestaat uit zand en mergel, afgezet tijdens het Paleoceen, in de ondiepe zee die België destijds bedekte. De formatie is opgedeeld in twee leden: onderop ligt groen, glauconiethoudend zand, daarboven ligt een laag kalkrijke klei en mergel, waarin fossiele bladeren van planten gevonden worden. Deze opeenvolging is ontstaan tijdens een transgressie van de zee, waarbij het Zand van Orp in een kustnabije omgeving ontstaan is en de afzetting van Gelinden nog steeds in ondiep zeewater vormde, maar verder uit de kust. De formatie heeft een ouderdom uit het Midden- tot Laat-Selandien. De Formatie van Heers komt voor in de ondergrond van het noorden en oosten van Vlaanderen. In de ondergrond van Limburg bereikt ze met ongeveer 60 meter haar grootste dikte. Ze ligt bovenop formaties uit het Krijt of Vroeg-Paleoceen, zoals de formaties van Opglabbeek en Houthem. Boven op de Formatie van Heers ligt vrijwel altijd de Formatie van Hannut (klei, zand en kalk uit het Laat-Paleoceen). De leden van Orp en Gelinden worden ook in de Nederlandse ondergrond teruggevonden. In Nederland worden deze twee afzettingen laagpakketten genoemd en ingedeeld bij de Formatie van Landen. (nl)
