Igbo-Ukwu (English: Great Igbo) is a town in the Nigerian state of Anambra in the south-central part of the country. The town comprises three quarters namely Obiuno, Ngo, and Ihite (an agglomeration of 4 quarters) with several villages within each quarter and thirty-six(36) administrative wards.It is also bordered by Ora-eri, Ichida, Azigbo, Ezinifite, Amichi, Isuofia, Ikenga and some other towns. Elle se caractérise par son travail du cuivre (venu de l’Aïr) et ses bronzes à la cire perdue. Découverte accidentellement en 1939 par un villageois qui creusait un puits puis étudiée à partir de 1959 par Charles Thurstan Shaw, elle ne peut être rattachée à aucune autre culture de la région, mais révèle l’existence d’un royaume puissant et raffiné. Descoberta acidentalmente em 1938 por um morador que estava cavando um poço, ela não pode ser vinculado a qualquer outra cultura na região, mas revela a existência de um reino poderoso e refinado. Es conocida por contar con tres sitios arqueológicos, donde las excavaciones han encontrado artefactos de bronce de una cultura que lo trabajó de un modo altamente sofisticado, quizá entre los siglos IX y X, siglos antes de otros bronces conocidos de la región. Entre los objetos se ha encontrado joyería, cerámica, un cadáver adornado con lo que parece ser una regalia, y muchos objetos formados por bronce, cobre y hierro. (es)
