| - De Dag der Inheemsen, ook wel Ingi Dei of Indigenous People's Day, is een officiële vrije dag in Suriname en valt op 9 augustus. De dag staat symbool voor respect voor en erkenning van de inheemse bevolking van Suriname. In 2006 heeft president Venetiaan de dag uitgeroepen tot nationale feestdag. Op 23 december 1994 hebben de Verenigde Naties per resolutie 9 augustus wereldwijd ingesteld als Internationale Dag der Inheemse Volken. Het grootste doel van deze dag is de nationale overheden stil te laten staan bij de behoeften van hun oorspronkelijke bewoners. (nl)
