Intermetamorphosis is a delusional misidentification syndrome, related to agnosia. The main symptoms consist of patients believing that they can see others change into someone else in both external appearance and internal personality. The disorder is usually comorbid with neurological disorders or mental disorders. The disorder was first described in 1932 by Paul Courbon (1879–1958), a French Psychiatrist. Intermetamorphosis is rare, although issues with diagnostics and comorbidity may lead to under-reporting.

Zaburzenie to po raz pierwszy opisane zostało w 1932 roku przez P. Courbona i J. Tusquesa w Illusions d'intermétamorphose et de la charme. Opisali przypadek 58-letniej kobiety, która doznawała częstych "zwidów" polegających na tym, iż jej mąż zamieniał się miejscami z jej sąsiadem. Niektóre elementy wizerunku jej męża jednak nie zmieniały się – nadal miał taki sam kolor oczu oraz nie miał palca, którego utracił w wyniku amputacji. Kobieta w wyniku zaburzenia również widziała transmutację obiektów, zwierząt domowych oraz elementów swojego ubioru. (pl)

De aandoening treedt op als uiting van een neurologische of psychische aandoening. Een voorbeeld uit de literatuur is een man die gediagnosticeerd werd met de ziekte van Alzheimer. Na verloop van tijd zag hij zijn vrouw aan voor zijn overleden moeder en later voor zijn zuster. Als verklaring vertelde hij nooit getrouwd geweest te zijn of dat zijn vrouw hem had verlaten. Later zag hij zijn zoon aan voor zijn broer en zijn dochter voor een andere zuster. Dat het niet alleen visuele agnosie of prosopagnosie betrof, bleek uit het feit dat de misidentificatie ook tijdens telefoongesprekken bleef bestaan. Ook zag hij verscheidene malen het ziekenhuis aan voor de kerk waar hij vroeger kwam. De aandoening werd in 1932 voor het eerst beschreven door P. Courbon en J.
