The International Snowboarding Federation was a body organised to run snowboarding competition. Following the collapse of the in 1990, five nations and 120 racers established the International Snowboarding Federation (ISF) with the goal of keeping the officiating by riders and for riders. It sought to bring the world's best competitors together to test their skills in an environment which embraced competitiveness, but stressed the idea of having fun. The ISF eventually attracted riders of varying ages and abilities, which allowed one-time rising stars such as Terje Håkonsen, Daniel Franck and Danny Kass to sharpen their skills at an early age on their way to joining the professional ranks. The ISF set the standard for snowboarding competition, which contributed to the development of it as an Olympic sport in the 1998 Winter Olympics. In a controversial move, the International Olympic Committee recognized the International Ski Federation (FIS) as the sport's official governing body. Three-time world champion Terje Håkonsen boycotted the Olympics as a result of the FIS being appointed to oversee the officiating. Other riders followed in Håkonsen's footsteps and concluded FIS rules to be inappropriate for snowboarding. The FIS has maintained its control over the Olympics, giving credence to the position that snowboarding is a discipline of skiing and not its own, individual sport. Although the ISF continued to represent snowboarding on an international level, it began to lose influence, sponsors and finances to the FIS, and ceased operations on June 22 2002. (en)

- International Snowboarding Federation czyli Międzynarodowa Federacja Snowboardingu była organizacją zajmującą się promowaniem snowboardingu, organizowaniem zawodów w rangach regionalnych i międzynarodowych. Po rozwiązaniu National Association of Professional Snowboarders w roku 1990, pięć krajów oraz 120 zawodników powołało Międzynarodową Federację Snowboardingu (International Snowboard Federation - ISF), której celem było organizowanie wszelkiej działalności snowboardowej (zawody, mistrzostwa, imprezy kulturalne i towarzyskie, szkolenia...) przez zawodników dla zawodników. Próbowano zebrać razem najlepszych zawodników w celu sprawdzenia ich umiejętności w środowisku pozbawionym konkurencyjności oraz obciążonym ideą dobrej zabawy. Ostatecznie ISF przyciągnął zawodników z różnych kategorii wiekowych i o różnych umiejętnościach, którym ówczesne gwiazdy jak Terje Haakonsen, Daniel Franck czy Danny Kass pomagały dopracować umiejętności w szybkim czasie do poziomu zawodniczego aby osiągać dobre wyniki podczas zawodów. ISF ustalił wysoki standard zawodów, oraz doprowadził do wprowadzenia konkurencji z tego sportu do programu Zimowych Igrzysk Olimpijskich w 1998 roku. Kontrowersyjną sytuacją było przyznanie przez Międzynarodowy Komitet Olimpijski nadzoru nad snowboardingiem Międzynarodowej Federacji Narciarskiej (FIS). Trzykrotny Mistrz Świata Terje Haakonsen zbojkotował igrzyska olimpijskie w ramach protestu przeciw przejęciu kontroli nad snowboardingiem przez federację zajmującą się innym sportem. Inni zawodnicy poszli w ślad za Haakonsenem utrzymując, że zasady FIS są nieodpowiednie dla snowboardingu. Ostatecznie FIS utrzymał kontrolę nad zawodami Olimpijskimi argumentując, że snowboarding jest sportem wywodzącym się z narciarstwa, a nie dyscypliną rozwijającą się niezależnie. Pomimo że ISF kontynuowała reprezentowanie snowboardingu na poziomie międzynarodowym, powoli zaczęła tracić energię rozwojową, sponsorów i finanse konieczne do kontynuowania działalności na dotychczasowym poziomie. Organizacja zakończyła swoją działalność 22 czerwca 2002 roku. (pl)
