Le premier tournoi connu a eu lieu lors d’une convention ludique du fanzine Valhalla à Seattle aux États-Unis les 15 et 16 juin 1968, presque dix ans après les premières ventes du jeu. Créé en 1970, annuel depuis 1972, le championnat d’Amérique du Nord resta le tournoi le plus prestigieux jusqu’à la création du championnat du monde en 1988. D’abord bisannuel, le championnat du monde est maintenant lui aussi annuel depuis 1994, le titre de champion du monde est le plus convoité. (fr)
