Sie ist als Komponistin von Ensemblekompositionen, Orchesterwerken und musiktheatralischen Stücken hervorgetreten. Der Durchbruch gelang ihr 1999 mit Ballade für Orchester: Hundert Komma Null. Während im 20. Jahrhundert die Idee des geschlossenen Werks immer mehr durchbrochen wurde, wurde der traditionelle Begriff der individuellen Autorfunktion kaum jemals ernsthaft infrage gestellt. Insofern kommt der exemplarischen Zusammenarbeit mit ihrem zeitweiligen Lebensgefährten, dem Berliner Komponisten Helmut Oehring, in einer Vielzahl von Koproduktionen große Bedeutung zu.
