James Cotterell Hoole MLC (18 May 1816 - 29 Apr 1878) was a prominent member of the Legislative Council of the Cape Colony. Hoole arrived in the Cape as a child, with his father and two siblings in 1820, and in the ensuing years was involved in the frontier wars of 1835 and 1846. He was a prominent businessman of the eastern frontier region of the Cape Colony and settled in Grahamstown. He was re-elected the next year in 1870, but only kept his seat until 1872, when the Responsible Government movement successfully took over.
