Jaun Zuria (Basque for "the White Lord") is the mythical first Lord and founder of the Lordship of Biscay, who defeated the Leonese and Asturian troops in the also-mythical Battle of Padura, in which he chased off the invaders to the Malato Tree, establishing there the borders of Biscay. There are three accounts of its legend, one by the Portuguese count Pedro Barcelos and two by the chronicler Lope García de Salazar. According to the legend, Jaun Zuria had been born from a Scottish or English princess who had been visited by the Basque deity Sugaar in the village of Mundaka.

Selon la légende, il serait né d'une princesse écossaise visitée par le dieu/esprit Sugaar, au village de Mundaka. Au XVe siècle, le seigneur de guerre Lope García de Salazar adapta une histoire depuis le Libro dos Linhagems de Pedro Alfonso, faisant de Jaun Zuria un noble élu par les gens de Biscaye pour les conduire contre l'armée du Royaume de León, à la mythique bataille de Padura ou Arrigorriaga en basque. Au XVe siècle, le seigneur de guerre Lope García de Salazar adapta une histoire depuis le Libro dos Linhagems de Pedro Alfonso, faisant de Jaun Zuria un noble élu par les gens de Biscaye pour les conduire contre l'armée du Royaume de León, à la mythique bataille de Padura ou Arrigorriaga en basque. Il n'y a rien d'historique dans cette légende, car la seigneurie de Biscaye fut créée par le Royaume de Castille après la conquête d'une partie du Royaume de Navarre en 1200. L'histoire fut vraisemblablement créée par les membres de la dynastie castillane, afin de se prétendre "Seigneur de Biscaye", créant ainsi une fausse histoire selon laquelle la Biscaye fut indépendante, et non juste une partie du Royaume de Navarre.
