Jean Hotman, Marquis de Villiers-St-Paul (1552 – 1636) was a French diplomat. Although he came from a Calvinist family, who had been exiled during the French Wars of Religion, Jean, through cultivating connections with Henry IV eventually was restored to a portion of his patrimony.

Hij was in dienst van Robert Dudley, graaf van Leicester en van 1585 tot 1587 de afgevaardigde van koningin Elizabeth I van Engeland naar de Republiek der Zeven Verenigde Nederlanden. Hotman trad op als Leicesters agent in Utrecht tijdens diens afwezigheid. Ook schreef hij een handboek voor ambassadeurs. (nl)

Figlio maggiore del famoso giurista François Hotman, nacque a Losanna perché la sua famiglia era in esilio durante le guerre di religione in Francia. Suo padre, anche se erede ad un appezzamento di terreno, non prese il titolo di marchese perché la sua aderenza al Protestantesimo lo distanziò dalla sua famiglia stessa. Nel 1578 si trasferirono per l'ultima volta a Basilea dove il padre Jean morì nel 1590. (it)
