Johannes van Heeck, (Deventer 2 February 1579 – presumably Sant'Angelo Romano c.1620), (also known as Johann Heck, Joannes Eck, Johannes Heckius, Johannes Eckius and Giovanni Ecchio) was a Dutch physician, naturalist, alchemist and astrologer. Together with Prince Federico Cesi, Anastasio de Filiis and Francesco Stelluti, he was one of the four founding members of the Accademia dei Lincei, the first learned society dedicated to understanding of the natural world through scientific enquiry.

  • Johannes van Heeck, of Johannes Heckius, (1579 - 1630) was een Nederlandse arts, natuuronderzoeker, alchemist en astronoom. Vanwege de vervolging van Rooms-katholieken in de protestantse Lage Landen was Van Heeck als jonge man terechtgekomen in Italië. In Perugia studeerde hij medicijnen en verwierf er in 1601 zijn doktersgraad. Hij was een van de oprichters van de Accademia dei Lincei in Rome. De eerste publicatie van de Accademia stond op zijn naam. In 1604 verliet hij Rome en na vele omzwervingen door Europa vond hij een aanstelling aan het hof van keizer Rudolf II in Praag. (nl)

Coltivò da giovane le discipline naturalistiche, ma per le intolleranze religiose che agitavano all'epoca il suo paese, si trasferì in Italia, dove studiò medicina all'Università di Perugia. Processato per il ferimento di uno speziale (che peraltro morì in seguito alle ferite), venne liberato anche grazie all'intervento di Federico Cesi, che lo accolse a Roma in casa propria, e con il quale concorse nella fondazione dell'Accademia dei Lincei.
