Sir John Moores CBE (25 January 1896 – 25 September 1993) was an English businessman, telegraphist, football club owner, politician and philanthropist, most famous for the founding of the now defunct Littlewoods retail and football pools company. Liverpool John Moores University is named in his honour. Moores' football-betting empire and Littlewoods stores made him one of Britain's richest men.

  • Sir John Moores, CBE (* 25. Januar 1896 in , Lancashire; † 25. September 1993 in Formby, Liverpool) war ein britischer Unternehmer und Philanthrop. Moores wurde als zweites von acht Kindern des Maurers John William Moores (1871–1919) geboren. 1909 verließ er die Schule und arbeitete zunächst als Bote im Postamt von Manchester, wo er nach einer Auseinandersetzung mit seinem Vorgesetzten entlassen wurde. Kurz darauf erhielt er einen Platz in einem Telegrafiekurs der Post und wurde 1912 von der eingestellt. Im Ersten Weltkrieg diente er ab 1917 als Funker in der britischen Marine. (de)
