Alexander Minto Hughes (2 May 1945 – 13 March 1998), better known as Judge Dread, was an English reggae and ska musician. He was the first white recording artist to have a reggae hit in Jamaica, and the BBC has banned more of his songs than those of any other recording artist, because of his frequent use of sexual innuendo and double entendres. Following his death, Rolling Stone reported, "He sold several million albums throughout his 25-plus year career and was second only to Bob Marley in U.K. reggae sales during the 1970s".

Han var den första vita artisten som fick en reggae-hit på Jamaica. Han dog på scenen under ett framträdande på The Penny Theatre, Canterbury. Bara 15 dagar före sin död spelade Judge Dread på Lorry i Sundbyberg utanför Stockholm. Svoji přezdívku si získal díky své mohutné postavě, ještě za doby kdy pracoval jako DJ a pouštěl jamajskou hudbu. Za mix pultem vypadal velmi respektuhodně, proto se mu začalo říkat Soudce Strach (=Judge Dread). V roce 1998 zemřel na infarkt při vystoupení v v Canterbury Anglii. (11. pozycja, 27 tygodni na liście) i (8. pozycja, 18 tygodni) z 1972 roku oraz adaptacja Je t'aime... moi non plus (9. pozycja, 9 tygodni) z 1975 roku. Wszystkie te utwory nie zostały dopuszczone do emisji na antenie BBC ze względu na licznie pojawiające się w nich aluzje i dwuznaczne sformułowania o podtekście seksualnym.
