Justo Apu Sahuaraura Inca (Cusco, 1770 – , ?) was an Incan noble and a leader of Peruvian independence. He was the son of Pedro Sahuaraura Tito Atauchi, chief of the , and descendant of Paullu Inca and, through him, a descendant of Huayna Cápac. At the beginning of the Cuzco Rebellion of 1814 led by Brigadier Mateo Pumacahua, he gave his assets to the cause, although when the royal authority was restored, they were set on fire by order of Colonel Vicente González. Under pressure and subjected to multiple humiliations, he was finally released and returned to his curate.

  • Justo Apu Sahuaraura Inca (Cusco, 1770 - Canas, ?) fue un noble inca y prócer de la Independencia. Hijo de Pedro Sahuaraura Tito Atauchi, cacique de Quispicanchis. Descendiente de Paullu Inca y, por lo tanto, de Huayna Cápac. Inició sus estudios en el Colegio San Francisco de Borja y los continuó en el Colegio de San Bernardo. Pasó a la Universidad San Antonio Abad, en la cual cursó Teología y Derecho Canónico. Tras optar el presbiterado, fue cura interino de Coaza (Carabaya), y durante cinco años regentó la doctrina de Pachaconas (Antabamba). Graduado de doctor (1808), fue nombrado examinador sinodal del obispado y visitador general de seis provincias, y destinado a la parroquia de Soraya (Aymaraes), en 1810. Al iniciarse la revolución dirigida por el brigadier Mateo Pumacahua (1814), puso sus bienes a disposición de la causa, aunque restablecida la autoridad real, fueron incendiadas por orden del coronel Vicente González. Apresado y sometido a múltiples humillaciones, se le puso finalmente en libertad y volvió a su curato. Recibió en su curato a Bolívar, quien reconoció sus méritos y le otorgó una medalla cívica. Nombrado canónigo tesorero del cabildo diocesano del Cuzco (1825), sería elegido diputado por Aymaraes (1826). En enero de 1825 fue parte de la Junta de Calificación establecida en el Cusco por Simón Bolívar para distribuir empleos entre los ciudadanos calificados por su probidad, aptitudes y servicios. Esta junta fue presidida por Benito Laso e integrada por Agustín Cosío, , , Justo Sahuaraura, José Feijoó, , y Martín Gavino Concha.​ Amargado por varias ofensas recibidas a su noble condición, se retiró al pueblo de Canas. En sus últimos años ordenó sus memorias y la documentación de su archivo familiar, llegando a publicar Recuerdos de la Monarquía Peruana o bosquejo de la historia de los incas (París, 1850). Dejó manuscritos una Antología de la literatura incásica, entre los cuales se contaba el códice del drama Ollantay, copiado hacia 1838 de un manuscrito que poseyera . (es)

He was the son of Pedro Sahuaraura Tito Atauchi, chief of the , and descendant of Paullu Inca and, through him, a descendant of Huayna Cápac. He began his studies in the and continued them in the . He went to the National University of Saint Anthony the Abbot in Cuzco, where he studied theology and canon law. After joining the clergy, he was the interim priest of, and for five years he was the head of doctrine in the district of (Antabamba). He graduated with a doctorate in 1808, was named the synodal examiner of the bishopric and general visitor of six provinces, and he was assigned to the parish of Soraya, in 1810. At the beginning of the Cuzco Rebellion of 1814 led by Brigadier Mateo Pumacahua, he gave his assets to the cause, although when the royal authority was restored, they were set on fire by order of Colonel Vicente González. Under pressure and subjected to multiple humiliations, he was finally released and returned to his curate. Back home he met Simon Bolívar, who recognized his merits and awarded him a civic medal. Named canon treasurer of the diocesan council of Cuzco (1825), he would be elected deputy by Aymaraes (1826). In January 1825 he was part of the Qualification Board established in Cusco by Simón Bolívar to distribute jobs among citizens qualified by their integrity, ability and service. This effort was led by and included , , , , , , and . Embittered by the treatment he received, he retired to the town of . In his last years he wrote his memoirs and documented his family archives, ultimately publishing "Memories of the Peruvian Monarchy or outline of the history of the Incas" (Paris, 1850). He left manuscripts in an Anthology of Inca Literature, among which was the codex of the Ollantay drama, copied around 1838 from a manuscript owned by the priest Antonio Valdes. His manuscript of "Memories of the Peruvian Monarchy" was stolen from Peru's National Library during the Chilean occupation of Lima from 1881–83. It was returned to Peru in November 2019 and unveiled in February 2020. (en)
