  • King Electric, a two-man electro-pop group from Austria, was founded by Peter Hartwig and Chris Isepp around 2005. After meeting each other while working in the Viennese music scene, Hartwig toured with the well-known noise-pop band the Basket Boys while Isepp worked as an Electro DJ/Producer/music magazine editor. In the early 1990's, the Basket Boys, suffering from changing musical tastes, split and Hartwig founded BASK with bandmate Manny Montana. After several years playing the Underground scene, BASK landed a recording contract. Bask released two albums: Dark Monkey Moods (1997, Spray Records) and World Slow Down (1999, Spray Records). On the heels of these two recordings, critics praised BASK as "musical pioneers out of the Vienna Downtempo School." At that time, Isepp stopped his own musical career as a DJ to work as an editor in the "trailblazing graphic art/technology magazine" ENVELOPE (MTV, 1994). The magazine reached cult status—primarily with readership in Germany and Japan. (Today, many still regard ENVELOPE as the first German-language print media to unite electronic music, graphic design and multimedia.) In mid-2000, after several studio sessions together, the pair decided to join forces and found Sultans of Swing. The first single, "Summerbreeze," was successful, receiving reviews in the press (UK, Germany, Japan), one reviewer remarking about the "charming 1970s MFSB Phillysound." The single reached Nr. 1 at Belgium Radio Charts and was followed by further releases on the band's own label, Top10 Records. 2009: release of the first King Electric single Da King. The Radio Mix was also available on the FM4 Sound Selection 20 (feat. MGMT, Animal Collective, Franz Ferdinand, Placebo, etc.) and reached Nr. 5 at the official Austrian Compilation Charts. The official video clip with the two clowns was even presented as part of the Diagonale 2010 (Festival of Austrian Film). Until the end of 2012, the debut album King Electric & 2 further singles Commit Yourself & Out of Reach have been released. In December 2013 the first part of the album Remixes Remixology Vol 1 was released. Chris Isepp has announced that the new King Electric album Pluto will be released in Spring 2021. 2 singles will be released as well: Satellite of Hate (a Depeche Mode cover version) and Oh So Quiet, based on the legendary U.N. Speech by Greta Thurnberg (en)
