Kitona is a town of about 4,000 persons in the Bas-Congo province of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. It is located to the southwest of the country along the Atlantic Ocean, about 190 miles southwest of the capital city of Kinshasa. Following the Second World War, a Belgian military base, including an airbase, was established there, along with another at Kamina. Both bases played important roles during the early 1960s Congo Crisis. Currently, an airbase is located in the town.

Está situada a unos 300 kilómetros al suroeste de Kinshasa. En la localidad hay una pequeña base militar que cuenta con una pista de aterrizaje. En los inicios de la Segunda Guerra del Congo en agosto de 1998, los rebeldes del Reagrupamiento Congoleño para la Democracia tomaron tres aviones en Goma y los enviaron a Kitona, asaltando por sorpresa la guarnición y tomando la localidad. Los rebeldes se apoderaron de la mayor parte del Bas-Congo, en especial de las presas de Inga, lo que les permitió cortar el fluido eléctrico de Kinshasa, y amenazar la capital con la posibilidad de que remontaran por la ruta de Matadi. Upon the outbreak of the Second Congo War on August 4th, 1998, Rwandan and Ugandan forces under the command of James Kabarebe landed at the airbase and quickly captured the town. It was subsequently recaptured by a government-aligned Angolan force with tanks that drove out of the province of Cabinda on 22 August. Currently, an airbase is located in the town. (en)

- Китона — город в Демократической Республике Конго с населением в 4000 человек, расположенный в провинции Центральное Конго в 300 км к юго-западу от столицы страны Киншасы на побережье Атлантического океана. На территории насёленного пункта находится небольшая военная база, оборудованная взлётно-посадочной полосой. В начале Второй конголезской войны для захвата города и открытия западного фронта из центра повстанцев тутси города Гома вылетели 3 самолёта с десантом. Полковнику Кабарере удалось застать гарнизон города врасплох и без особых потерь захватить город. Повстанцы захватили большую часть провинции Центральное Конго, в том числе и ГЭС "Инга", которая питала энергией столицу страны. Впоследствии город был отвоеван 22 августа проправительственными Вооруженными силами Анголы (FAA) с танками, которые прибыли из провинции Кабинда.
