Leonela is a Venezuelan telenovela written by Delia Fiallo and produced by Radio Caracas Televisión in 1983. The telenovela was divided into two parts: the first part Leonela had 55 episodes and the second part titled Miedo al amor was produced in 1984. It was distributed internationally by Coral International. During its airing, the telenovela was surrounded by controversy because of its theme of rape and love. A remake, titled Leonela, muriendo de amor, was made in Peru in 1997. Mayra Alejandra and Carlos Olivier starred as the protagonists.

Esiste poi un remake girato in Perù nel 1997 intitolato Leonela, muriendo de amor avente come protagonisti gli attori e . In Italia è stata trasmessa per la prima volta dalle TV locali nel 1985 e ad oggi circola in due versioni: o in 133 puntate da 45 minuti l'una o in 248 puntate da 25 minuti ciascuna. Nel tempo, essendosi parzialmente rovinata, risultano tagliate diverse scene (tra cui alcune molto significative come il primo bacio tra Pedro Luis e Leonela o la scenata di gelosia di Pedro Luis quando trova Leonela nello studio del suo psichiatra). La sigla, intitolata "Ladròn de tu amor", è stata scritta da Luis Guillermo Gonzàles e Enrique Hidalgo, ed è cantata da Gualberto Ibarreto. (it)
