On emploie improprement son nom pour désigner les populations de langue celtique qui utilisaient, antérieurement au IVe siècle av. J.-C., l'alphabet étrusque pour enregistrer des textes en langue vernaculaire. - Els leponcis (en llatí Lepontii, en grec antic Ληπόντιοι) eren un poble celta alpí que habitava les valls del sud dels Alps a la regió del Llac de Como i Llac Maggiore. Estrabó diu que eren una tribu rètica i que abans vivien més cap a Itàlia però havien estat rebutjats cap a les muntanyes. Juli Cèsar diu (De Bello Gallico IV, 10) que el Rin neix al país dels leponcis, i Plini el Vell diu que els (uberi o viberi) ocupaven les fonts del Roine, però Claudi Ptolemeu els situa erròniament als Alps Cotians. Los leponcios han sido descritos de manera diversa, como una tribu celta, ligur, recia y germana. - The Lepontii were an ancient Celtic people occupying portions of Rhaetia (in modern Switzerland and Northern Italy) in the Alps during the late Bronze Age/Iron Age. Recent archeological excavations and their association with the Golasecca culture (9th-7th centuries BC) and Canegrate culture (13th century BC) point to a Celtic affiliation. From the analysis of their language and the place names of the old Lepontic areas, it was hypothesized that these people represent a layer similar to that Celtic but previous to the Gallic penetration in the Po valley. The suggestion has been made that the Lepontii may have been celticized Ligurians. (en)
- Leponti adalah suku Kelt kuno yang pernah mendiami Raetia (di Swiss modern dan Italia utara) di pegunungan Alpen selama Zaman Perunggu akhir dan Zaman Besi. - I Leponzi (anche Leponti o Lepontini) erano un'antica popolazione celtica o ligure stanziata nelle Alpi centro-occidentali. Secondo gli autori antichi il loro territorio si estendeva a nord fino alle sorgenti del Rodano e del Reno e a sud fino ai territori in cui le valli alpine si aprono verso la pianura padana comprendendo quindi il Cantone Ticino, la Lombardia occidentale, la Val d'Ossola. La loro esistenza è attestata dal I millennio a.C.. Solo successivamente, con l'ampliamento del territorio dell'Italia antica, il territorio venne a far parte della Gallia Transpadana. (it)
- De Lepontii (Lepontiërs) waren een Keltische volkerenstam die leefde in Raetia, een Romeinse provincie die in het huidige Zwitserland en Noord-Italië in de Alpen lag, toen de Romeinen hun gebied veroverden. De Lepontii werden in de loop der tijden beschreven als een Keltische, Ligurische, Raetische en Germaanse stam, maar er blijven nu te weinig bewijzen over om de Lepontii met zekerheid te kunnen categoriseren. Er zijn echter aanwijzingen, vooral gebaseerd op recente archeologische opgravingen, en ook hun associatie met de van Noord-Italie, die wijzen op een Keltische oorsprong, mogelijk ook een mengvorm van de Raetiërs (die van Etruskische oorsprong waren) en Kelten. - Лепонтийцы (лат. Lepontii) — древний народ, населявший часть территории Ретии (ныне — альпийские регионы Швейцарии и Италии) ко времени завоевания этих земель римлянами. Различные авторы причисляли лепонтийцев к кельтам, лигурам, ретам и даже германцам. Обнаруженные в XIX веке надписи на лепонтийском языке 7-5 вв., выполненные производным от этрусского алфавитом, а также материалы археологических раскопок, указывающие на связь с археологической культурой Голасекка на севере Италии, являются окончательным свидетельством о кельтской принадлежности лепонтийцев, хотя нельзя исключить и примесь ретского населения (родственного этрускам). - Leponterna (på latin Lepontii) var en folkgrupp som bodde i Raetien (dagens Schweiz och nordligaste Italien) under antiken. De talade lepontiska, ett idag utdött keltiskt språk. Leponterna har omväxlande beskrivits som kelter, ligurer, räter och germaner. Arkeologiska utgrävningar visar på kopplingar mellan den protokeltiska och leponterna. Man kan dock inte utesluta att leponterna även innehöll drag av räter (som var delvis av etruskiskt ursprung). (sv)
