Lie Eng Hok (1893-1961) was an Indonesian independence activist and Indonesian Communist Party (PKI) supporter in the Dutch East Indies. He was also a journalist for the popular Chinese Indonesian newspaper Sin Po. The Dutch government accused him of being involved in the 1926 Banten rebellion and exiled him to the Boven-Digoel concentration camp from 1927 to 1932. He was a personal friend of Wage Rudolf Supratman, author of the Indonesian national anthem. He was granted the status of Pioneer of Independence by the Indonesian government in 1959.

Semasa muda Lie aktif sebagai wartawan Surat Kabar Sin Po dan berkawan akrab dengan Wage Rudolf Supratman, temannya di surat kabar dan pencipta lagu Indonesia Raya. Dari temannya ini ia belajar banyak tentang cita-cita kebangsaan. Lie Eng Hok yang berperan sebagai kurir kaum pergerakan ditahan Pemerintah Kolonial Belanda dan dibuang ke Boven Digoel (Tanah Merah), Papua, selama lima tahun (1927-1932). Selama di Boven Digoel Lie menolak bekerja untuk pemerintah kolonial Belanda dan lebih memilih membuka kios tambal sepatu untuk memenuhi biaya hidupnya. Atas jasa-jasanya pada bangsa dan negara Indonesia, Lie Eng Hok diangkat sebagai RI berdasarkan SK Menteri Sosial RI No. Pol. 111 PK tertanggal 22 Januari 1959. Lie meninggal pada 27 Desember 1961 dan dimakamkan di pemakaman umum di Semarang. Dua puluh lima tahun kemudian, kerangka Lie Eng Hok baru dipindahkan ke Taman Makam Pahlawan Giri Tunggal, Semarang, melalui Surat Pangdam IV Diponegoro No.B/678/X/1986. (in)
