Louis Évely (1910–1985) was a writer and former Catholic priest from Belgium who published several books about the spiritual life. Despite leaving the priesthood in 1967, and his subsequent marriage, he remained active as a spiritual leader. Most of Évely's work, rather than the fruit of academic research, stems from preaching at conferences and retreats. Many of his listeners transcribed the text of talks to disseminate among their churches, often in carbon typescript or photocopies, long before the texts reached editors and printers.

En tant que prêtre catholique il publia plusieurs ouvrages sur la vie spirituelle. Quittant la vie sacerdotale il se maria tout en restant actif en tant que chef spirituel. Évely fut un pédagogue de la tout en étant un écrivain prolifique. Plusieurs de ses ouvrages se sont vendus en milliers d’exemplaires et ont été traduits en 25 langues. La renommée de Louis Évely fut telle dans les années 1960 que l’un de ses sermons fut intégralement reproduit dans "Ma nuit chez Maud", un film dirigé par Éric Rohmer. Une de ses conférences sur la prière, donnée en Espagne, déclencha une émeute, tant ses propos choquaient certains catholiques conservateurs. (fr)

V roce 1980 se pravděpodobně při přednáškách v Africe nakazil tropickou nemocí, která podlomila jeho zdraví. Zemřel v roce 1985 ve věku 75 let. (cs)

Several of his works sold in the hundreds of thousands and were translated into 25 languages. In the 1960s one of his sermons was reproduced in its entirety in a film directed by Éric Rohmer. One of his conferences on prayer held in Spain started a riot, as some conservative Catholics were shocked by his outspokenness.
