- The modius is a type of flat-topped cylindrical headdress or crown found in ancient Egyptian art and art of the Greco-Roman world. The name was given by modern scholars based on its resemblance to the jar used as a Roman unit of dry measure, but it probably does represent a grain-measure, and symbolizing ones ability to learn new information by having an open mind with an empty cup. I.e. Edu/Cation (Edu/Cation) Serapis was the main idol/figurehead at the Library of Alexandria during the ancient Egyptian & Roman alliance.

| - El modius o modio es un tipo de tocado cilíndrico o corona que se utilizaba en el arte del Antiguo Egipto y en el mundo greco-romano. Se parece al que se llevaba en la cabeza para poder transportar algo pesado. Su nombre fue dado por los estudiosos por su semejanza al modius romano, utensilio utilizado como unidad de medida de capacidad de granos. El modius es llevado por determinadas deidades egipcias, como Tueris, diosa de la fertilidad, Anuket, diosa de las cataratas del Nilo o Mut, diosa madre egipcia, deidades eleusinas y sus homólogas romanas, como Artemisa de Éfeso y algunas otras formas de la diosa, Hécate y Serapis. En alguna de las deidades representa la fecundidad. El modius alto forma parte del complejo tocado utilizado en diferentes representaciones de reinas o sacerdotisas egipcias, adornado con otros símbolos, como motivos vegetales o el uraeus, como el caso de la reina Tiy o la divina adoratriz, Karomama. También fue un tocado distintivo de los sacerdotes de Palmira. (es)

The modius is worn by certain deities, including the Eleusinian deities and their Roman counterparts, the Ephesian Artemis and certain other forms of the goddess, Hecate, and Serapis. On some deities it represents fruitfulness. It is thought to be a form mostly restricted to supernatural beings in art, and rarely worn in real life, with two probable exceptions. A tall modius is part of the complex headdress used for portraits of Egyptian queens, ornamented variously with symbols, vegetative motifs, and the uraeus. It was also the distinctive headdress of Palmyrene priests.
