Muttsee is a reservoir in the Canton of Glarus, Switzerland. Its surface area is 42 ha (100 acres). It is used as the upper reservoir in the 1 GW pumped-storage hydroelectricity Linth–Limmern Power Stations. The 2.4 km high altitude permits a 2.2 MW solar farm to supply 3.3 GWh per year, more than average power, even in winter. The 6,000 photovoltaic panels were installed on the containment wall of the artificial basin in 2021, covering approximately 10,000 square meters of concrete.

  • Der Muttsee (ehemals Mutten See, Muttensee) ist ein Stausee auf der Muttenalp im südlichsten Teil der politischen Gemeinde Glarus Süd im Kanton Glarus in der Schweiz. Der ursprüngliche Bergsee ist seit dem Jahre 1968 in das Konzept der Energiegewinnung durch Wasserkraft der Kraftwerke Linth-Limmern eingebunden. Im Zuge erheblicher Ausbaumassnahmen der Kraftwerksanlagen in den Jahren 2009 bis 2017 wurde der 1963 erbaute Staudamm durch eine Staumauer aus Beton ersetzt. Diese hat eine Länge von 1054 Metern, was sie zur längsten Staumauer der Schweiz macht. Der Wasserspiegel erreicht bei Vollstau eine Höhe von 2474 m. Damit ist der Muttsee das höchstgelegene Speicherbecken der Schweiz, das mehr als 10 Mio. m³ Inhalt hat. Der höchstgelegene Stausee unter Aufsicht der Bundesbehörden ist der Speichersee Viderjoch in der Silvretta Arena, der auf 2664 m liegt. Seit 2021 entsteht an der Staumauer die grösste alpine Photovoltaikanlage der Schweiz. (de)
