De NCRV werkte sinds augustus 2010 met de KRO, IKON en RKK aan een mogelijke fusie tot een grote confessionele omroep. Later stapte de IKON uit de fusiebesprekingen en ging ze samenwerken met de EO. In mei 2011 werd bekend dat de KRO en NCRV waarschijnlijk zouden fuseren met de gezamenlijke merknaam KRO-NCRV, en dit vanaf 2016, maar op 1 januari 2014 was dit al een feit. Op 1 januari 2019 fuseerden de Vereniging NCRV met de Vereniging KRO tot de nieuwe Vereniging KRO-NCRV.
