Nelbert Chouinard (born Nelbertina Murphy; 1879–1969) was an American artist who founded the Chouinard Arts Institute (1921) in Los Angeles, California. The Institute had a great influence on the arts and art education in Los Angeles, educating the artists and animators who made an impact on art in the twentieth century.

När han dog 1918, slog sig Nelbert Chouinard ned i South Pasadena i Los Angeles County i Kalifornien, där hon arbetade som lärare på Throop Poytechnic Institute i Pasadena under Ernest Batchelder och senare på i i Los Angeles. År 1921 grundade hon Chouinard Art Institute i Westlake. Nelbert Chouinard drev skolan till slutet av 1950-talet.
