Ohel (Hebrew: אוהל; plural: ohelim, literally, "tent") is a structure built around a Jewish grave as a sign of prominence of the deceased. Ohelim cover the graves of some (but not all) Hasidic Rebbes, important rabbis, tzadikim, prominent Jewish community leaders, and biblical figures. Typically a small masonry building, an ohel may include room for visitors to pray, meditate, and light candles in honor of the deceased.

Elle peut recouvrir des personnes, animaux ou objets, le plus souvent pour les protéger des intempéries. La Bible crédite Jabal fils de Lamekh de l’avoir inventée (Genèse 4:20) et le patriarche Jacob est qualifié d’« homme intègre habitant les tentes » (Genèse 25:27). C’est aussi dans l’ohel moëd (rendu en français par tente d’assignation) qu’est déposée l’arche d’alliance, et le grand-prêtre d’Israël y pénètre une fois par an lors du jour des propritiations pour y rencontrer YHWH afin de demander le pardon pour son peuple. Cependant, l’ohel est aussi le lieu où repose la dépouille d’un mort et l’impureté rituelle s’y transmet (Nombres 19:14-15). (fr) Ohel (in ebraico: אוהל‎?; plur. ohalim, lett. "tenda") si riferisce sia ad una ordinaria tenda o una abitazione, sia ad una struttura costruita sopra una tomba quale segno di prominenza e importanza della persona lì sotto sepolta. Nello specifico attualmente Ohel è un tempio religioso a Queens, New York, meta di pellegrinaggio annuale di migliaia di ebrei. Vi sono sepolti il Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson e suo suocero Rabbi Yosef Yitzchok Schneersohn (i due più recenti capi religiosi del movimento ebraico ortodosso chiamato Chabad-Lubavitch). Anche le tombe dei precedenti Rebbe di Chabad sono chiamate Ohel. (it) Ohel (hebr. אֹהֶל namiot) – niewielki żydowski grobowiec murowany lub drewniany, najczęściej kształtu prostopadłościanu, zwykle z drzwiami, a czasem również okienkami, o dachu półkolistym lub dwuspadowym. Pierwotnie ohele ograniczały się do wspartego na czterech filarach daszku ustawionego nad nagrobkiem. Ohele wznosi się nad grobami wybitnych rabinów lub cadyków oraz ich męskich potomków. Funkcją ohelu było zabezpieczenie grobu i zapewnienie osobom modlącym się w jego wnętrzu ochrony przed niekorzystnymi warunkami atmosferycznymi. (pl)
