The Old Market Square (German: Alter Markt) is a centrally located square in downtown Potsdam which forms the historical centre of the city. The square consists of the area around St. Nicholas' Church. Today the term refers in particular to the area directly in front of the church. It is bordered by several prestigious historical buildings. The square has been the site of much architectural reconstruction work in recent years which has restored much historic building fabric that was lost in World War Two.

Vid torget ligger flera av stadens historiska byggnader som Potsdams stadsslott, Nikolaikyrkan, Museum Barberini i Barberinipalatset och i det gamla rådhuset. Slottet inrymmer idag de moderna lokalerna för delstatsparlamentet, Brandenburgs lantdag. (sv) Der Alte Markt ist ein zentraler Platz in der Potsdamer Altstadt und bildet den historischen Stadtkern. Einzigartig ist seine Funktion als Markt-, Schloss-, Kirch- und Rathausplatz. Er wird begrenzt vom Staudenhof im Norden, vom Alten Rathaus und vom Palast Barberini im Osten, vom Stadtschloss im Süden und vom ehemaligen FH-Gelände im Westen. Auf dem Platz stehen die Nikolaikirche und der Obelisk. (de) De Alte Markt is een centraal gelegen plein in Potsdam. Aan dit plein liggen de Landdag van Brandenburg in het recent herbouwde Stadtschloss Potsdam. Verder liggen er de , St. Nikolaikirche en het Oude raadhuis waarin momenteel het gevestigd is. In de directe nabijheid bevindt zich de Marstall waar het in zit. In de nabije toekomst zou ook het Museum Barberini (naar het voorbeeld van het Palazzo Barberini in Rome gebouwd, waar de Galleria Nazionale d'Arte Antica zich in bevindt.) herbouwd zijn, het gebouw was naar de Tweede Wereldoorlog afgebroken.
