The Royal Commission of Inquiry on Education in the Province of Quebec, better known as the Parent Commission, was a commission established in 1961 by the newly elected Lesage government to investigate the education system in Quebec up until the 1960s. It was chaired by Mgr Alphonse-Marie Parent, and consisted of 8 members. The resulting report, the Parent Report, published between 1963-66 in 5 volumes, consisted of nearly 1500 pages, and proposed some 500 recommendations that led to following major reforms of the then church-dominated education system:

Il suggère diverses réformes du système d'éducation québécois en proposant notamment : * la création du ministère de l'Éducation du Québec ; * la scolarisation obligatoire jusqu'à l'âge de 16 ans ; * la création des collèges d'enseignement général et professionnel (cégep) en remplacement des collèges de l'époque dirigés par des religieux ; * la formation poussée des enseignants ; * l'accès facilité aux universités en dehors de toute appartenance sociale. En tant que produit de la Révolution tranquille, la commission Parent a favorisé la création radicale d'un système d'éducation unifié, démocratique et accessible à tout le monde à tous les niveaux d'enseignement.
