The Patriotic Front in Zimbabwe was a coalition of two African Leadership parties: the Zimbabwe African Peoples Union (ZAPU) and the Zimbabwe African National Union (ZANU) which had worked together to fight against white minority rule in Rhodesia. In 1980 elections ZAPU contested as Patriotic Front whereas ZANU contested as ZANU-Patriotic Front. Lors des élections de 1980 les deux partis se présentent séparément, l'Union du peuple africain du Zimbabwe en tant que Front patriotique et l'Union nationale africaine du Zimbabwe sous la bannière d'« Union nationale africaine du Zimbabwe - Front patriotique ». Lors des élections de 1988 l'Union nationale africaine du Zimbabwe absorbe définitivement l'Union du peuple africain du Zimbabwe et se nomme depuis Union nationale africaine du Zimbabwe – Front patriotique.
