Racey wurde bekannt als „Batman“ (Fledermausmann) und nach ihm benannt wurde die auf Madagaskar beheimatete Racey-Zwergfledermaus. Schon früh engagierte sich Racey für den Schutz von Fledermäusen und leitete von 1992 bis 1996 den Bat Conservation Trust, eine gemeinnützige britische Organisation zum Schutz der Fledermäuse. (de)
