Plan 9 is an American neo-psychedelic band from Rhode Island formed in 1979. The group was named for the 1950s science fiction film Plan 9 from Outer Space. The Calgary Herald wrote, in 1989, "Its music has that spirited, no-holds-barred feel of rock from the '60s while managing to not sound dated." The band was inducted into the Rhode Island Music Hall of Fame in 2017, alongside Throwing Muses and several other acts.

Erste Aufnahmen erschienen bei . Die Band erspielte sich schnell einen Ruf als gute Liveband, die vom Gesang Eric Stumpos und dem einprägsamen Orgelsound von Deb Demarco dominiert wurde. Aufgrund ihrer aktiven Tourneetätigkeit landete die Gruppe einen Plattenvertrag bei , geführt von William und Wes Hein. Neben kamen sie bei – einem Sublabel von Enigma – unter. Als Enigma einen Vertriebsdeal mit Capitol Records abschloss, wurden sie schließlich ganz von Capitol Records unter Vertrag genommen. Die Band machte in den 90ern wenig von sich reden, veröffentlicht aber weiterhin Platten auf ihrem eigenen Label, die stark Progressive-Rock-lastig sind. (de)
