The Plaza de Oriente is a square in the historic center of Madrid, Spain. Rectangular in shape and monumental in character, it was designed in 1844 by Narciso Pascual y Colomer. The square was propagated by King Joseph I, who ordered the demolition of the medieval houses on the site. It is located between some important landmarks in Madrid: To the west is the Royal Palace, the Teatro Real ("Royal Theater") to the east, and the Royal Monastery of the Incarnation to the north. The plaza has statues of 44 Spanish kings from the medieval period, including:

Además de los citados edificios, esta plaza monumental alberga diferentes jardines histórico-artísticos. Fu realizzata dal re di Spagna Giuseppe Bonaparte, che ordinò personalmente l'abbattimento degli edifici della zona, in modo da proporzionare l'ampiezza del palazzo con l'accesso diretto alla città. La piazza era separata dal Palazzo Reale dalla calle de Bailén. Con l'interramento della via, eseguito nel 1996, la piazza ha guadagnato terreno verso ovest, arrivando fino alla facciata est del palazzo. La piazza, inoltre, confina ad est con il Teatro Real ed è adornata da statue di diversi re di Spagna, tra cui il monumento equestre a Filippo IV, e da tre monumenti.
