| - Polarizační filtr je fotografický filtr, který se montuje před objektiv fotoaparátu. S použitím polarizačního filtru lze dosáhnout věrnějšího podání barev a lepšího vykreslení oblohy. Filtr odstraňuje odlesky, zvyšuje sytost a živost barev, ztmavuje oblohu a odstraňuje opar na vzdáleném obzoru. Z optického hlediska jde o speciální druh polarizátoru. (cs)

Quan un feix de llum no polaritzada travessa aquest material, la llum sortint (transmesa) queda polaritzada. Un filtre polaritzador pot disminuir la intensitat lluminosa d'un feix de llum polaritzat i fins i tot bloquejar-ne el pas. La magnitud d'aquesta reducció depèn, en un filtre polaritzador lineal, de la inclinació respectiva entre el pla de polarització del feix de llum i el pla polaritzador del filtre segons la llei de Malus. - Το πολωτικό φίλτρο ή πολαριζέ φίλτρο είναι ένα φωτογραφικό φίλτρο το οποίο βιδώνεται στον φωτογραφικό φακό της μηχανής. Το φίλτρο αποτελείται από δύο δακτυλίδια και περιστρέφοντας το ένα από αυτά επιλέγουμε το επιθυμητό φιλτράρισμα πόλωσης φωτός. Το φίλτρο αυτό πολώνει το φως κατά την λήψη της φωτογραφίας με στόχο να εξαλείφονται οι ανακλάσεις, να έχει ζωντανότερα (πιο κορεσμένα) χρώματα αλλά και καλύτερη αντίθεση - διαύγεια η τελική φωτογραφία. Το πολωτικό φίλτρο είναι βασικό φίλτρο στην ψηφιακή φωτογραφία. Δεν υπάρχει λογισμικό επεξεργασίας εικόνας που να μπορεί να προσομοιώσει το αποτέλεσμα του φίλτρου πόλωσης (πολλά φίλτρα της κλασικής φωτογραφίας με φιλμ προσομοιώνονται με κατάλληλο λογισμικό επεξεργασίας εικόνας). - Ein Polarisationsfilter (kurz auch Polfilter) ist ein Polarisator für Licht, der auf Dichroismus beruht, also komplementär polarisiertes Licht absorbiert, statt es wie polarisierende Strahlteiler zu reflektieren. Dadurch eignet es sich, Lichtstrahlen, die in der „falschen“ Ebene schwingen, zu unterdrücken. Dies wird in der Fotografie unter anderem dazu verwendet, Spiegelungen auf nicht metallischen Oberflächen zu unterdrücken oder hervorzuheben. Es ist auch möglich, Polarisationsfilter direkt bei einer Lichtquelle einzusetzen, um dadurch ein gleich schwingendes Licht zu erhalten. Hierbei ist zu beachten, dass der Polarisationsfilter eine beträchtliche Lichtmenge aussperren kann und diese Lichtmenge absorbiert, indem er sie in Wärme umwandelt. (de)

- A polarizing filter or polarising filter (see spelling differences) is often placed in front of the camera lens in photography in order to darken skies, manage reflections, or suppress glare from the surface of lakes or the sea. Since reflections (and sky-light) tend to be at least partially linearly-polarized, a linear polarizer can be used to change the balance of the light in the photograph. The rotational orientation of the filter is adjusted for the preferred artistic effect. For modern cameras, a circular polarizer (CPL) is typically used; this comprises firstly a linear polarizer which performs the artistic function just described, followed by a quarter-wave plate which further transforms the now-linearly polarized light into circularly-polarized light before entering the camera.
