Rocco Verduci (3 August 1824, Caraffa del Bianco – 2 October 1847, Gerace) was an Italian revolutionary, and martyr of the Insurrection of 1847 in the Two Sicilies. In September 1847 Verduci led a rebellion in the district of Gerace, as part of the wider 1847 Insurrection in the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies. The aims of the insurrection were the unification of Italy and the abolition of the monarchy. After having taken over several villages of the district, and proclaimed the suppression of the taxes on imports and exports and the reduction by half of the costs of salt and tobacco, the insurrection was eventually crushed by the arrival of royal troops. Né dans une famille de petits propriétaires terriens traditionnellement proche du carbonarisme, Verduci est éduqué à l'université de Naples, où il adhère aux idéaux républicains et libéraux. En septembre 1847, il prend la tête de l'insurrection dans le district de Gerace, plus tard appelée Révolte de Gerace et dont il est nommé commandant militaire suprême, prônant la naissance d'une monarchie constitutionnelle ou d'une république ainsi que l'unification de la péninsule italienne, alors divisée en une multitude de royaumes indépendants. Les chefs de la révolte, qui parviennent à soulever de nombreux villages et petites villes côtières, sont rejoints par plusieurs centaines d'insurgés, mais l'arrivée de l'armée royale précipite la fin du soulèvement et ses chefs se voient forcés de fuir dans les montagnes. Dénoncés, ils sont finalement arrêtés puis jugés par une commission militaire. Rocco Verduci et quatre autres insurgés, dont il est le plus jeune, sont fusillés le 2 octobre 1847 sur la plaine de Gerace. Ils passent à la postérité sous le nom des « Cinq Martyrs de Gerace ».
