| - Roger Wittevrongel (né à Blankenberge, le 23 avril 1933) est un peintre, dessinateur et graphiste belge, représentant de l’hyperréalisme. Roger Wittevrongel a suivi sa formation à Gand où il a combiné ses études à l’Académie Royale des Beaux-Arts (1953-1956) avec une formation d’enseignant d'arts plastiques à l’École normale de l'état (1954-1956) sous la direction d'Octave Landuyt. Entre 1956 et 1971 il a enseigné les arts plastiques à l'école moyenne de l'État à Gand. Ensuite il était professeur d’eau-forte, de dessin et de lithographie à l'Académie Royale des Beaux-Arts à Gand jusqu'en 1997, l’année où il y obtenait le titre de Professeur honoraire. En 1954, Roger Wittevrongel a débuté dans l'ambiance d'Octave Landuyt, mais plus abstraitement, avec une œuvre autour de la destruction, du ravage et des têtes d’animaux. Vers 1964, sa peinture est devenue plus figurative, essentiellement des compositions architecturales avec des compléments décoratifs de nature végétale et avec des nus féminins entourés de toutes sortes d'attributs (par exemple du matériel de peinture et de dessin). Vers 1970, il en vient à un style hyperréaliste avec une précision absolue dans la représentation de ce qui est visible. Au sein de ce style il évolue cependant encore et il s'oriente alors vers des sujets plutôt banals, qu'il rend également avec une précision artisanale. Mais les sujets en soi - les intérieurs, les fragments architecturaux et les personnages féminins - sont traités comme des natures mortes ce qui leur confère presque une valeur abstraite. Dans ces œuvres surtout, la question de la relation entre l'homme et la réalité visible est évoquée. Ici la perplexité est moins incitée par la virtuosité technique mais davantage par la question d'existence des choses. Roger Wittevrongel expose depuis 1954 en Belgique, les Pays-Bas, la France, la Grande-Bretagne, l'Italie, la Suisse, l'Allemagne, la Suède, le Maroc, la Tunisie, l'Afrique du Sud, le Brésil, le Japon, les États-Unis d'Amérique, le Canada et le Taïwan. - Roger Wittevrongel (born 23 April 1933) is a Belgian painter, draughtsman and graphic artist, representative of the hyperrealism. Wittevrongel was born in Blankenberge, Belgium. He received his education in Ghent, where he combined his studies at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts (KASK) (1953-1956) with a teacher training in plastic arts in the State School (1954-1956) under the guidance of Octave Landuyt. From 1956 up to 1971, he worked as a teacher in plastic arts at the State School in Ghent. Consequently, he was professor etching, drawing and lithography at the Royal Academy for Fine Arts in Ghent until 1997, where he got the title of honorary professor since then. In 1954, Wittevrongel made his debut in the atmosphere of Octave Landuyt, yet more in an abstract way, with work around destruction, devastation and animal heads. Around 1964, he started to paint more figuratively, mainly architectural compositions decorated with vegetable elements and female nudes surrounded by a wide range of attributes (for example painting and drawing tools). Around 1970 he comes to a hyperrealistic style with an absolute accuracy in the reproduction of what the eye could see. However, he continued to evolve within this style and concentrated on trivial subjects, which he also depicted with the greatest precision. The subjects themselves - interiors, fragments of architecture and female characters, are treated as still-lives, which gives them an abstract quality. These works in particular raise questions concerning man's relationship with visible reality. Here the astonishment is less evoked by the technical virtuosity but more by the question of the meaning of existence. - Roger Wittevrongel (Blankenberge 23 april 1933) is Vlaams-Belgische schilder, tekenaar en graficus, vertegenwoordiger van het hyperrealisme. Wittevrongel trok voor zijn opleiding naar Gent waar hij studies aan de Koninklijke Academie voor Schone Kunsten (1953-1956) combineerde met een lerarenopleiding plastische opvoeding in de Rijksnormaalschool (1954-1956) onder leiding van Octave Landuyt. Hij ging van 1956 tot 1971 aan de slag als leraar plastische opvoeding in de Rijksmiddelbare school in Gent. Daar aansluitend was hij tot 1997 docent etsen, tekenen en lithografie aan de Koninklijke Academie voor Schone Kunsten in Gent, waar hij sindsdien de titel van Eredocent kreeg. In 1954 debuteerde Roger Wittevrongel in de sfeer van Octave Landuyt, doch abstracter, met werk rond thema's van vernieling, verwoesting en dierenkoppen.Omstreeks 1964 ging hij meer figuratief schilderen, voornamelijk architecturale composities met het plantaardige als decoratieve aanvulling en door allerlei attributen (bijvoorbeeld schilder- en tekenbenodigdheden) omringd vrouwelijk naakt. Rond 1970 komt hij tot een hyperrealistische stijl met een absolute nauwkeurigheid in de weergave van het zichtbare. Binnen deze stijl evolueert hij echter nog en richt hij zich eerder op banale onderwerpen, die hij eveneens met ambachtelijke preciesheid weergeeft. Maar de onderwerpen op zich - interieurs, architecturale fragmenten en vrouwelijke personages - worden als stillevens behandeld, waardoor ze bijna een abstracte waarde krijgen. Vooral in deze werken wordt de vraag naar de relatie tussen de mens en de zichtbare werkelijkheid opgeroepen. De verbluffing leidt hier minder naar de technische virtuositeit en meer naar de zijnsvraag der dingen. Roger Wittevrongel exposeert sinds 1954 met persoonlijke en gezamenlijke tentoonstellingen onder andere in België, Nederland, Frankrijk, Groot-Brittannië, Italië, Zwitserland, Duitsland, Zweden, Marokko, Tunesië, Zuid-Afrika, Brazilië, Japan, Verenigde Staten van Amerika, Canada en Taiwan.
