The rue de Siam (or Siam Street) is the main arterial street of Brest, a port city in Brittany, France. Its name comes from the arrival of three ambassadors led by Kosa Pan, sent by the King of Siam on the 29 June 1686 to meet Louis XIV in Versailles. They went with six mandarins, three translators, two secretaries and a retinue of servants, loaded with presents. They traveled on the boats l'Oiseau and La Maligne. They crossed Saint-Pierre Street to go to the hostel of the same name. The inhabitants were so amazed that they renamed the street. The street was quite narrow before World War II.

La rue de Siam d’avant la Seconde Guerre mondiale était bien plus étroite que l'artère actuelle, le centre-ville ayant été détruit quasiment en totalité par les bombardements alliés et les bulldozers de la Reconstruction. De straatnaam is een herinnering aan de aankomst op 18 juni 1686 van drie ambassadeurs van de koning van Siam in Brest. Ze waren door koning Narai naar de Franse koning Lodewijk XIV gestuurd om te onderhandelen over een verbond tussen Frankrijk en Siam en de vestiging van een Franse handelspost in Siam. Overladen met geschenken trokken de ambassadeurs van Brest naar Versailles.

La rue Saint-Pierre, l'ancien nom de la rue, fut tracée par Vauban comme l'une des artères principales de la ville qu’était Brest, avec la Grand-rue (renommée rue Louis-Pasteur en 1907) plus importante. Elle doit son nom actuel au débarquement de trois ambassadeurs du roi de Siam (actuelle Thaïlande) Narai, menés par Kosa Pan, dans ce port, le 18 juin 1686. Accompagnés de six mandarins, trois interprètes, deux secrétaires et une vingtaine de domestiques, chargés de nombreux présents, ils venaient rendre visite au roi Louis XIV à Versailles. Venus par mer, ils avaient voyagé à bord des navires l’Oiseau et la Maligne. Empruntant à pied la rue Saint-Pierre pour se rendre à l’hôtel du même nom, ils émerveillèrent les Brestois qui rebaptisèrent leur rue. La rue de Siam d’avant la Seconde Guerre mondiale était bien plus étroite que l'artère actuelle, le centre-ville ayant été détruit quasiment en totalité par les bombardements alliés et les bulldozers de la Reconstruction. Tijdens de Tweede Wereldoorlog werd Brest voor 90% vernield door luchtbombardementen. Na de Tweede Wereldoorlog werd de rue de Siam heraangelegd. Het nieuwe, modernistische stadhuis kreeg een groot voorplein dat het begin van de straat vormt. Langsheen de straat duurde de wederopbouw tot in de jaren 1980. De straat werd de centrale winkelstraat van Brest. In 2012, met de komst van de tram, werd de straat heraangelegd met veel ruimte voor voetgangers.
