The Sack of Cashel, also known as the massacre of Cashel, took place on 15 September 1647 during the Irish Confederate Wars, when Cashel Castle in County Tipperary was taken by an Protestant Parliamentarian army commanded by the Earl of Inchiquin. In what is considered one of the most brutal incidents of the war, survivors of the Catholic garrison were executed along with a number of civilians and the castle was sacked.

  • Tharla Creachadh Chaisil (nó Sléácht Chaisil) ar 15 Meán Fómhair 1647, le linn Cogadh na hAon Bhliana Déag, nuair a rinne Murchadh Ó Briain (nó an Iarla Inse Chuinn) scrios iomlán ar gharastún na Comhdhála, a bhí lonnaithe ar Charraig Phádraig. Gníomh mínáireach a bhí ann, fiú le linn bhlianta corracha na 17ú haoise. Rinne Murchadh léirscrios ar Chúige Mumhan le linn an ama seo, rud a tharraing Murchadh na dTóiteán air mar leasainm. (ga)
