Samatya (Greek: Ψαμάθεια, pr. Psamatheia; Armenian: Սամաթիա) is a quarter of the Fatih district of Istanbul. It is located along the Marmara Sea, and borders to the west on the neighborhood of Yedikule (the "Castle of the Seven Towers").

Hasta tiempos recientes, Samatya estaba mayoritariamente habitado por armenios, que fueron ubicados ahí en 1458 por el sultán Mehmet II, que tienen en este barrio la iglesia armenia de , también llamada Sulu Manastiri —Monasterio del agua—, que anteriormente fue una iglesia ortodoxa cuyo origen se remonta a antes de la conquista otomana; y por griegos, que tienen en la vecindad las iglesias de Hristos Analipsis y . En Samatya está ubicada la estación Kocamustafapaşa de la línea de tren suburbano Sirkeci-Halkalı. Uno de los más pintorescos mercados de pescado de Estambul está situado en el barrio, justo enfrente de la estación de tren. Samatya también es uno de los lugares favorito para los directores turcos. Uno de los más famosos programas de la televisión turca, Ikinci Bahar, así como Üç maymun de Nuri Bilge Ceylan, fueron filmados en Samatya. (es)

Fino a tempi recenti, Samatya era per lo più abitata da armeni, che si erano stabiliti qui nel 1458 per concessione del sultano Mehmet II, e che possedevano la chiesa di San Giorgio di Samatya, chiamata anche Sulu Manastiri (monastero dell'acqua) – anticamente una chiesa ortodossa esistente da prima della caduta di Costantinopoli, ed appartenente ad una comunità greca, che possedeva anche le chiese dell'Ascensione di Cristo (Hristos Analipsis) e di San Mena (Haghios Menas). La zona venne distrutta nel 1782 da uno dei peggiori incendi che abbiano mai colpito Istanbul. A Samatya si trova un grande ospedale pubblico, l'İstanbul Eğitim ve Araştırma Hastanesi. Samatya ha una stazione ("Kocamustafapaşa") , oggi dismessa, sulla linea suburbana İstanbul-Halkalı, che si snoda sul percorso Sirkeci-Halkalı. La linea è stata chiusa a seguito dell'apertura di Marmaray. Nel quartiere è presente uno dei più caratteristici mercati ittici di Istanbul, sito proprio di fronte alla stazione. Oggi gli armeni hanno lasciato Samatya per trasferirsi in altre zone di Istanbul. Il loro posto è stato preso da gente proveniente dalle regioni di sud-est della Turchia. (it)
