Saron is a town in the Western Cape province of South Africa. A Mission Station can be found at the foot of the in the Tulbagh district, about 20 km south of Porterville. The Mission Station was established by the Rhenish Missionary Society in 1848 by Johannes Heinrich Kulpmann, for Mission Station Purposes only, it was later taken over by the Dutch Reformed Church in 1945. The name, Afrikaans for Sharon, is of biblical origin (1 Chronicles 27:29, Song of Solomon 2:1), meaning 'flats' or ‘plain’. Saron has its name written on the side of the Saronsberg which can be seen from an aerial view.

- Saron is een dorp in de Zuid-Afrikaanse provincie West-Kaap. Saron behoort tot de gemeente Drakenstein dat onderdeel van het district Kaapse Wynland is. In 1848 kocht Johannes Heinrich Kulpmann van een zendingsgenootschap een boerderij genaamd Leeuwenklip. Kulpmanm richtte er een missiepost ten behoeve van bevrijde slaven en inheemse bewoners in het gebied. De missiepost heette Saron, wat van bijbelse oorsprong is en 'vlakte' betekent. In 1852 werd er op de plek van de missiepost een kerk gebouwd. De boerderij werd de pastorie en de aanwezige wijnkelder werd tijdelijk als school gebruikt totdat in 1877 een nieuw gebouw werd voltooid. (nl)
