Segestria senoculata, sometimes known as the snake-back spider, is a species of spider belonging to the family Segestriidae. It has a Palearctic distribution. The common names of this species (which has a body length of around 9 mm) refer to a row of black spots along the back of the grey abdomen which are thought to resemble the pattern found on some snakes. However, on some specimens these markings fuse to form a solid band. The carapace is shiny dark brown and elongated and the legs are pale brown with darker ringing.

Té una distribució per la zona Paleàrtica: Europa, Turquia, Caucas, Rússia, Japó. Segons el World Spider Catalog amb data del 7 de gener de 2019 hi ha una subespècie reconeguda: Segestria senoculata castrodunensis descrita per Gétaz el 1889. El seu cos fa al voltant de 9 mm, i és d'un color bru ombrívol, amb motius ramificats en el seu opistosoma. Pot ser confosa amb els exemplars joves de Segestria florentina. (ca)

Ma ciemne ubarwienie: szary odwłok i brązowy głowotułów. Na odwłoku posiada charakterystyczne rozszerzające się ku tyłowi plamy. Występuje w Europie środkowej: w lasach, pod odstającą korą, w szczelinach skalnych, w pobliżu budynków. Aktywny jest nocą. Segestry podkorní obývají lesní stanoviště, sutě a skalní štěrbiny. Najdeme je pod kůrou pařezů, starých stromů, pod kameny či v mechu. Pod kůrou na ni můžeme narazit i v zimě. Na těchto místech buduje pavučinové rourky, ve kterých číhá na svou oběť. Ústí „nory“ je opatřeno signálními vlákny a pokud kolem otvoru proběhne potenciální kořist, segestra dostane znamení o její přítomnosti, načež se ji zmocní rychlým výpadem. (cs)
